Twitter has said it will start eliminating false or misleading tweets about COVID-19 vaccinations which could be detrimental, such as false claims the vaccines will intentionally cause damage or control inhabitants or that invoke "a deliberate conspiracy."

Twitter's policy update, announced in a blog post the same week that the first Americans obtained COVID-19 vaccinations as part of a mass immunization campaign, also said users might be required to eliminate tweets with false claims about the negative effects of getting COVID-19 vaccines.

It also prohibits widely debunked misinformation about the adverse effects of getting COVID-19 vaccines. The new policy will begin to be enforced following week.

Conspiracy theories and misinformation about the coronavirus and its possible vaccines have proliferated on social networking platforms throughout the seemingly endless pandemic.

Twitter said that it could also label or put a warning on tweets with "unsubstantiated rumours, disputed claims, as well as incomplete or out-of-context information" about the vaccines, beginning early next year.

A Twitter spokeswoman said the corporation would determine with public health partners which vaccine misinformation was detrimental enough to warrant removal.

Facebook and Alphabet-owned YouTube have both in recent weeks declared bans on bogus claims about the vaccine that go against data from public health specialists.

Twitter previously required users to eliminate tweets with false or misleading information about the nature of the coronavirus, the effectiveness or safety of preventative measures or remedies, official regulations or the risk of infection or death. The company says it hides such tweets and blocks consumers from tweeting again till they eliminate them.

Twitter stated it would enforce the updated coverage from December the 21st and could enlarge these activities in these weeks.
